Introduction
Public Engagement in Batticaloa and Ampara Districts in Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka is at a crucial stage in its governance and development journey, following an economic crisis that underscored the need for greater transparency, accountability, and public engagement in decision-making processes. The crisis has prompted increased civic activism, with citizens demanding stronger oversight mechanisms and more inclusive governance structures.
In response, the government has prioritized public sector efficiency, institutional integrity, and social cohesion, recognizing the need to rebuild trust between the state and citizens. However, limited public participation in governance, lack of structured civic engagement mechanisms, and gaps in institutional accountability continue to pose challenges to sustained democratic governance and equitable development.
Objective;
This initiative is aligned with ongoing efforts to promote open and participatory governance, ensuring that citizens, particularly women, youth, and marginalized communities, can meaningfully contribute to public decision-making and oversight processes. Selected organization will be engaged to coordinate and implement efforts in Batticaloa and Ampara districts in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka based on the requirements described in the Terms of Reference (TOR) in a timely manner.
Please refer to the TOR for details.
